Bingham featured on ABC News
Grace Cathedral and Sally Bingham were featured as a part of a segment on "Green" San Francisco. This ran the other evening on ABC World News Tonight with Charles Gibson, who, by the way, is broadcasting from SF this week, from the roof of KGO-TV.
This video clip is inspiring, and not only because of the Rev. Sally Bingham's great work - the news piece is showing how San Francisco is a leading city in greening.
I watched this clip soon after I had listened to my the daily podcast, "Pray as You Go." The scripture reading for the day was fromt the Acts of the Apostles, when Paul and Barnabas make a witness to the believers in Jerusalem. The passage ends by saying the assembly sat silent, listening to the account of the signs and wonders.
In the meditation that follows, we are asked if, in our own Christian community, we ever sit in silence to see what God is doing in our midst, or whether convention and habit blind us to the movement of God in the moment.
Here I think we have a great opportunity, as Christians in this diverse Bay Area culture, to be attentive to God leading us all to a new way of being, caring for the poor and the earth in new ways. It will take our silence, our unhooking from both convention and seeing what we expect to see.
I think God is doing new things here, and that we in the Diocese of California have an important role to play in entering and welcoming the new.
